Muslim in America: a Community Dialogue on Islamophobia

What does it mean to be Muslim in America? In New York? In Syracuse? Join the Near Westside Peacemaking Project for a community dialogue on Muslim identity and Islamophobia.  The dialogue will be facilitated by the Seeds of Peace, high school students from the Syracuse City School District who are trained as community peacebuilders. The goal of the dialogue is to inform, build common ground, and provide a safe space for questions, ideas, and stories.

Westside Talent Show

The Near Westside Peacemaking Project, the Mundy Branch Library, Huntington Family Centers, and La Liga present the Westside Talent Show! Join us at Delaware Academy for free food and free entertainment showcasing the brightest talent in the Near Westside. Cash prizes for all youth categories.

Spring 2016 Peacemaking Training

May 7, 2016 - 9:00am

The Peacemaking Project is seeking Syracuse-area community members to be trained as volunteer peacemakers. A 4-part training series in May and June will prepare volunteers to lead peacemaking circles. Topics will include: the principals of peacemaking, the criminal justice system, and storytelling.  The training is free.

The training schedule includes:

Saturday, May 7, 2016 from 9am-4pm

Saturday - Sunday, June 11-12, 2016 from 9am-4pm with expert Native American peacemakers

Two additional sessions will be scheduled based on volunteer availability. Food will be provided at all training sessions.

Near Westside Through the Lens: A Photography Exhibition

April 29, 2016 - 4:00pm - 7:00pm

Join us for "Near Westside Through the Lens," a photography exhibition showcasing the work of local youth. The exhibition will be installed at SALTQuarters Gallery, located in the Near Westside neighborhood at 115 Otisco Street. 

The exhibition will continue on Saturday, April 30th from 10am-5pm.

Studio Photography Workshop

March 24, 2016 - 3:30pm - 5:00pm

 

The Near Westside Peacemaking Project in partnership with local Artist & Curator, Laura Heyman, will host a free Studio Photography Workshop for the youth in the community. The 6 week course will end with a public exhibition of the photography work at a local gallery in the Near Westside.

The photography workshop is open for community youth ages 15 and up, the course will be held from 3:30 pm - 5:00 pm at 601 Tully Street. The schedule is as follows:

Wednesday, March 30th

Wednesday, April 6th, 13th, 20th and 27th.
