The NYLAG Mobile Legal Help Center (aka, “the van”) will be returning to the Justice Center  July 11th, from 10am-3pm. They will serving anyone in the community who needs legal advice on a range of civil matters- benefits, immigration, housing, identity theft, custody, divorce, and much more!

JustWorks: Summer Internship Program

July 3, 2017 - 10:00am - August 18, 2017 - 12:00pm

The JustWorks: Summer Internship Program at the Justice Center focuses on providing young people ages 14-18+, with a valueable employment experience and exposure to various career options. 

The program runs for a total of 7 weeks (July 3rd - August 18th) in which students will learn skills, be placed at an internship site and have the opportunity to attend a one day out of state college trip! Community service projects, cultural opportunites and filed trips are also avaliable through the duration of the program.

On Friday June, 23rd, AmeriCorps will be holding a book fair in Coffey Park in the afternoon from 2:30pm-4:30pm. We plan to give free books to children in the community. Our goal is to encourage children to read during their summer vacation!

Upcoming Theatre of the Oppressed Performance

June 22, 2017 - 5:00pm

We are extremely excited to invite you to our Theatre of the Oppressed NYC performance of “All Chained Up”. For the past 12 weeks, our young actors have been putting together a performance addressing community issues such as racism, police brutality, body image and gender roles based on their real-life experiences.

 We hope that you all can join us and support our young actors on Thursday, June, 22 at 5pm at the Miccio Community Center located on 110 West 9th Street Brooklyn, NY 11231 for the show.

 

 

 

Community Dialogue with Seeds of Peace

June 17, 2017 - 12:30pm - 2:30pm

Join us for our 3rd Community Dialogue with Seeds of Peace! Previous dialogue topics included 1) Race & Violence and 2) Islamophobia. 

The Syracuse-based Seeds of Peace are Syracuse City School District high school students who are trained in conflict resolution and leadership skills. Members of the organization attend the Seeds of Peace summer camp in Maine each year. The community dialogue topic will be developed and facilitated by the Seeds.

FREE THEATER! A View From The Bridge

April 13, 2017 - 5:00pm

A Free Live Professional production of "A View From The Bridge" the classic play by Arthur Miler that is actually based in Red Hook in the 1950s. Read more about the play here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_View_from_the_Bridge

 

The performance will take place in our Mock Courtroom and is being put on by The Light Fantastic Theatre Company, a phenomenal theater company dedicated to bringing high quality productions to audiences in communities throughout the city that don't often frequent the theater district in Manhattan http://www.thelightfantastic.org/

 

Delicious halftime concessions will be provided by the Peacemaking Program as a benefit to a field trip they are planning to the new Smithsonian National Museum of African American History & Culture.
